The electronic queue reservation system for crossing the external land border of Latvia (hereinafter - ERRS) ensures the pre-registration of vehicles in the queue for crossing the external border of Latvia towards the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.

In accordance with the amendments to the "State Border Law of the Republic of Latvia" adopted on June 19, 2025, in order to travel by vehicle, crossing the external land border at active border crossing points, the driver, owner or keeper of the vehicle must register in this system. Before crossing the external land border of Latvia, all vehicles used for the transport of passengers or cargo, except for vehicles for which an exception is specified in regulatory enactments*, must register in the system.

Why is the electronic queue reservation system needed?

The task of the system is to ensure the equipment of road border crossing points of Latvia and, at the same time, the external border of the European Union with an efficient organization of vehicle movement. This will allow for more efficient planning of freight transport, reduce the financial burden on carriers that currently arises from spending several days in the border zone and waiting for the opportunity to cross the border, ensure balanced crossing of the external border, for example, for passenger transport and local traffic, promote road traffic safety before border crossing points, and also help ensure the arrival of an appropriate number of vehicles at the border crossing point, taking into account the capacity of the responsible institutions.
